Short answer
How do you create a feeding routine for a dog?
Pick consistent meal times, measure each portion according to your vet’s advice, and make sure everyone who feeds your dog follows the same plan. Many owners feed adult dogs twice a day, but the right number of meals depends on your dog’s age, size, health and your vet’s advice.
1. Ask your vet what suits your dog
Age, size, activity and health all change how much and how often a dog should eat. Your vet can tell you the food and portion size that fit your dog, and that is the plan to follow.
2. Choose meal times you can keep
Dogs usually settle quickly into a pattern. Pick times that suit your household, such as morning and evening, and keep them roughly the same, including at weekends.
3. Measure, don’t guess
Use the same scoop or kitchen scale each time. Eyeballing leads to drift, especially when several people feed the dog.
4. Decide who feeds when
Write down who does which meal. If the plan changes, such as a late evening, say who covers it.
5. Record each meal
The most common problem in shared homes is a double meal. A shared record means the second person sees that the dog has already eaten.
6. Keep an eye on supplies
Note when a bag was opened and how long it usually lasts, so you reorder before it is empty.
How Patikoko helps
In the Patikoko feeding tracker you set meal routines with reminders, log each feeding in a tap and see who fed the dog and when. If you set a meal plan, the reminder can tell you how much to give, and low-stock alerts tell you when to buy more.
